⭐️ Top Shelf Pour: Huge Thanks to the Founding Poetry Pals & Partners

This week, I have so much gratitude & excitement as I share some incredible news: The Poetry Pour Events Calendar is officially locked in & launching this summer, thanks to the incredible generosity of our Founding Poetry Pals, Partners, & Pour-tenders, alike!

When I first envisioned The Poetry Pour, it was always about being more than just a local newsletter that shared events—it was about building a thriving community where every voice could be heard and every event could find its audience. And with the launch of a CitySpark-powered local poetry events calendar, that vision is becoming a reality.

But this wouldn't have been possible without your unwavering support. Whether you contributed funds, reposted the content to your stories, or otherwise engaged in this fundraising campaign, your belief in this project (& the sheer fact that you subscribed at all!) has fueled my passion and inspired me to work even harder to create even more resources that truly serves our community.

So, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

In the coming weeks, I'll be working hard to populate the calendar with events, connect with local venues, and fine-tune the user experience. I'll also be reaching out to our Poetry Pour Partners and Premier Poetry Pour-tenders to coordinate their shout-outs and features.

Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready to pour into the Providence poetry scene like never before!

🏠️ Brew-It at Home: Last Chance for a Summer Writing Recharge with Camp Write Start

Remember a few weeks ago when I featured Camp Write Start? Well, it kicks off this weekend, and if you're looking for a last-minute boost of creativity and community, now's your chance to jump in!

With the start date coming up on Sunday, I also want to remind you that you don't have to commit to the full four weeks to experience the magic. Talicha is offering Day Passes and Week Passes, so you can join the fun whenever it fits your schedule and energy levels. And if you're feeling generous, you can also donate to their Community Support Fund to go towards assisting folks who would love to join camp but have financial circumstances that would make it hard to otherwise join.

🗳️ Spill the Tea: IRL Connection

As you know, I’m always looking for ways to strengthen our local poetry community. I’m excited to share that I'm currently in talks with a certain bookstore/bar 😉 about potentially hosting a monthly poetry book club!

But before I get too far ahead in the planning process, I want to make sure I'm creating the kind of event that you would actually want to attend. So, I'm curious…

What type of in-person poetry gathering would you most like to attend?

Your feedback in these polls directly shape what I spend my time and energy on, so don't be shy about sharing what would actually get you out of the house and in community!

🏘️ Pour-trait of a Neighbor: ‘Simply’ a Visionary

Last week, I featured "Outspoken Presents: This Is Us" as the Top Shelf Pour, and I'm thrilled to report that it lived up to the hype! I attended the event at Brass Monkey on Saturday, and it was truly a moving experience.

The night was complete with a stellar open mic followed by the documentary preview screening (that had me tearing up), in which the diversity of Blackness was beautifully encompassed & explored, with each interviewee finishing the phrase "black is..." It was a powerful reminder of the importance of representation and storytelling within our community—& the poetry?! 😍

As I mentioned last week, I first met Sara at Public Shop & Gallery a few months back, and it was amazing to see her dedication to creating meaningful spaces for poets and artists in Providence up close. While I may not be able to witness her grace again at either of her upcoming features (celebrating Cape Verde’s Independence Day), I’m giving you her Instagram page so you can stay in the know of all the marvelous things she’s up to, plan to see her perform in the flesh, engage with her online, or simply shoot her a DM to congratulate her on this momentous performance feature!

Note: I realize the events listing this week is bare bones, but with the holiday & the hot weather & lots of local libation stations closing for a summer break, it’s to be expected. But if you know of any poetry-related events going on this week that weren’t featured, please reply to let me know so I can promote on social media at the very least!

Either way, consider this the universe’s way of telling you you need some rest, too. & maybe taking some time off from attending IRL events will mean you actually sit down & edit that poem that’s waiting for your time & attention — that’s my plan anyway & it’s always nice to have an accountability buddy! 😁
