November: Month of Gratitude, Reflection, & Poetry

Poetry events in Providence (& beyond!) in November 2025. Poetry readings & workshops you can attend from home. Opportunities to submit your poems & share your craft.

⭐️Top Shelf Pours

My top picks for poetry happenings this month:

  • Apothica's Monthly Poetry Night — Friday, November 14th

    • I’m personally so glad they changed the date/time of this monthly open mic so that I can start attending again; I haven’t been since the summer! If you haven’t attended yet, your next chance is this week! No ticket needed, just show up with an appetite & a poem to read/share & I’ll see you there!

  • Legacies: What We Carry, What We Leave — Monday, November 17th

    • From spoken word sparring to dance choreographed to poetry, this event brings together dynamic artist duos who explore the weight we carry, the memories we leave behind, and the legacies that continue to shape us. Each performance is a duet—a dialogue between movement and language, rhythm and reflection. Put on by Mr. Orange of Tell Your Truth & Trinity Rep, I’m sure it’s going to be a blast & since my schedule doesn’t allow for me to attend, I’m asking you to grab a ticket & go in my stead. Pretty please?!

  • Afroverse's Hide-N-Speak Vol. XXVII — Thursday, November 20th

    • Celebrate local talent with two rounds of open mic and an inspiring feature performance with intimate conversations that bring poems and stories to life. Afroverse’s Hide-N-Speak has become a night out amongst fellow poets that I look forward to each month. Grab a ticket online beforehand to save some money & venture down below to party in the poetry basement with us!

🏠️ Brew-It at Home

Here are my recommendations on how you can engage with poetry from home this month:

  • Art, Craft, and Professional Practice: A Virtual Q+A with Michael Rose — Thursday, November 13th

    • Join art gallerist and writer Michael Rose for an engaging interactive virtual question and answer session designed for artists, craftspeople, & arts professionals of all experience levels to learn about connecting professionally. While it’s not a traditionally poetry-centric event, I figured it might be of interest to you as someone who engages in poetry & the arts. This is a virtual program session held on Zoom but registration is required to receive access, so click the link above to save your spot & check out the Fuller Craft Museum while you’re on their site (Fun Fact: I grew up in Brockton & visited this museum many times on field trips!)

  • Adult Workshop with Sarah Kay — Saturday, November 15th

    • As soon as I read the description for this virtual workshop, I was immediately upset I couldn’t attend. So if I can’t, you should. It would be such a privilege to attend this workshop taught by Sarah Kay, who’s famous for her often witty, heartfelt, and impactful spoken word & viral TedTalk. In this generative workshop, you will examine and discuss contemporary poems that use metaphor to get closer to what is true, and experiment with persona poems that allow us to get closer to what is you. Don’t miss the chance to participate, if your schedule allows!

  • Trans Ruckus Virtual Poetry Reading - Thursday, November 20th

    • A dynamic reading, hosted and curated by Kay Ulanday Barrett, and featuring poets Chrysanthemum, Ezra Fox, Golden, Jimena Lucero, Zuggie Tate, and Cai Sherley, Trans Ruckus aims to honor Transgender and Non-Binary poetry through remembrance and celebration in honor of Trans Day of Remembrance. Split this Rock is the only national organization with a mission to integrate poetry and social justice, which makes this reading not only a great way to engage with poetry from home this month, but a fantastic way to support poets who are often excluded and underrepresented in the literary landscape.

You’ve got till the end of the month to submit so start deciding which poem fits the prompt & check out the link above for more details before submitting via email!
